Universities In Southern Africa That Contribute To Research And Development
There are a variety of Universities throughout southern Africa and the Nordic region which contribute to the research and development process in Africa and South Africa. Four such Universities include: the University of Zambia, the University of the Western Cape, Uppsala University, and the University of Turku. Each of these Universities is also part of the Southern African Nordic Centre or SANORD for short.

The Southern African Nordic Centre is an organization that connects members of the four mentioned Universities along with academics from: the University of Aarhus, the University of Bergen, the University of Malawi, and the University of Turku. These connected groups then work together in various means to further research and development in southern Africa through a variety of means.


Some of these Universities work to further medical research while others work to further development in agriculture or in astronomy. However, all eight Universities have sects of individuals and academics who meet and discuss manners in which they can further their specific area, and then actually put action behind their words and turn their ideas into a reality in order to better their region.

The University Of Turku

The University of Turku has a strong focus on various areas of research and development which include: Biosciences, mathematical research, research of Learning and Education, astronomy and space research, and research Related to Interaction of Culture and Society. 

The University Of Zambia

The University Of Zambia has a strong focus in research and development when it concerns Social Sciences, Natural Sciences, Engineering, Medicine, Agricultural Sciences, Mines, Business and Industrial Studies, and Veterinary Medicine to name a few. There are a variety of organizations throughout the University that focus on each of these areas and seek out ways in which they can make further advancements in technology in their specific areas of research.   

The University of the Western Cape

 The University of the Western Cape has a very strong focus on the "research into policy options for a democratic South Africa". Additionally, the University of the Western Cape has a Research and Development department that allows academics to pose areas of interest that they would like to focus their studies on and research. This allows students to choose those areas which interest them the most, and to back them up with field work and proper teachings.

Uppsala University

Uppsala University has received high marks and awards of excellence when it concerns research and development. In fact, after an evaluation by foreign experts, a great number of research teams received the marking of "world leading" or "high international standard". Many academics who have a strong desire to further their research and development choose Uppsala University based on these rankings alone.

Areas of major research and development at Uppsala University include: Science and Technology, Medicine and Pharmacy, Humanities And Social Sciences, and Educational Sciences.

Each of these Universities continues to make advancements in development and research and are active members and contributors of the Southern African Nordic Centre.
